Context sometimes can make all the difference. In my case, knowing where I come from is essential to understanding how I think and operate. Me… I’m from the hood. Not the rap-video hood or the basketball hood, not the fake hood and definitely not the gayborhood. I’m from the hood hood, man, the PJ’s; the black timbs and black hoods hood.  I’m from where niggas ride out. That’s me. Rather, that’s at least one half of who I am.

The other half is the intellectual half, the sophisticated half. This half belongs to the œnophile, Hobbes-quoting, polyglot æsthete. Connoisseur when it comes to espresso, picky when it comes to chocolate, impossible when it comes to cuisine. It’s not about affect, either. I just like what I like. All and all, though, I try to keep it real. My life is no mere blend of these two elements; instead it is a dialectic expression of these competing forces. I like girls with advanced degrees and phat asses, I buy my cigars in bulk so I can save some dough, and am probably the only person ever to bring a gun to a cheese-tasting (seriously!)
